For Scenic Drives:
- Blue Ridge Parkway follows the mountain ridges from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina and Tennessee. The Parkway's 469 toll-free miles combine natural beauty, mountain forests, wildlife, wildflowers and magnificent views. The Parkway was designed especially for leisure travel and enjoyment. There are numerous overlooks and parking areas to view some of America's finest scenic vistas. The Blue Ridge Parkway is located 15 miles north of Hendersonville. For additional information call 1-800-228-7275 or (828) 298-0398. blueridgeparkway.org
- Campbell's Covered Bridge Scenic Drive/Overlook Built in the 1800s. Follow signs on Hwy 14 to Hwy 414 in Gowensville, SC.
- Pacolet River Scenic Byway Drive along this scenic 10-mile byway that follows the Pacolet River from Tryon to historic Saluda. View waterfalls, wildflowers, and beautiful vistas. Take US 176 North from Tryon or South from Saluda.
- Polk County Scenic Drive For scenery, take Houston Road out of Columbus (stay right at fork), turn left onto White Oak Mountain Road and drive to the top, passing Shunkawauken Falls. Continue on the gravel road to Sunset Rock with its expansive views. Spend a few minutes and snap a photo, then head back the way you came. Take Silver Creek Road out of Mill Spring and loop, going up either Holbert's Cove Road or Green River Cove Road, and then down the other. It's a nice rural ride with both river and mountain vistas.
- Shunkawauken Falls A tall waterfall near the top of White Oak Mountain. The road cuts through the falls and is narrow with minimal pull-outs. Be very careful, if you decide to stop. White Oak Mountain Road Columbus, NC.
- Jump Off Rock is a scenic overlook which provides a panoramic view of rolling pastures, the Blue Ridge and Pisgah mountain ranges. Jump Off Rock also holds an Indian legend that has been passed down for many, many years. Over 300 years ago a young Cherokee Indian maiden received word that her young Indian Chief had been killed in battle, so she climbed to the edge of the rock and jumped off. Indian legend has it that on moonlit nights you can see the ghost of the maiden on Jump Off Rock. Jump Off is located about 5 miles from downtown at the end of Laurel Park Hwy in Hendersonville. The park is open daily, sunrise to sunset. No admission charge.
